Golden Stars of Partnership
On 13th November 1998 in Italian city of Ferrara, the European Commission awarded Kalisz with “Golden Star of Partnership”. Kalisz was the fourth city in Poland which has been honoured with this award. Our city was chosen from a numerous group of candidate cities. Only a few cities in Europe can pride themselves on this prestigious award.
In his letter to the President of Kalisz City, Spyros A.Pappas - The European Commission's Director-General – justified the awarding an award by the fact that the city upon Prosna is widely renown by partners in Western Europe and the European Commission.
All awarded cities are involved in creation of European unity. Owing to their programmes the cities are facilitators in bringing citizens of Europe together.
The European Commission appreciates the effort made by local authorities in European integration. The jury who awarded Kalisz included representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, the Federation of Partner Municipalities and Communes.

Honorary Flag
In 1999 international activity of local authorities and citizens of Kalisz was noticed and appreciated by European institutions again.
The Council of Europe awarded Kalisz with the Honorary Flag for 1999, which is an award for maintaining active international contacts for previous few years.
In application for this award they emphasised that Kalisz at its own initiative have been maintaining mutual contacts supporting European spirit. It is a very prestigious award which promotes Kalisz at international arena.

Honorary Badge of the Council of Europe
In 2003 another prize was awarded to Kalisz – “Honorary Badge of the Council of Europe”. It was awarded for a remarkable contribution to European integration. It is one of the most prestigious European awards. A few cities can pride themselves on this award.
Honorary Badge of the Council of Europe was presented to local authorities by Wolfgang Behrendt - a representative of the Council of Europe.

The event took place on 5th June 2003 at the ceremonial Session of the City Council on the occasion of City Holiday.
