Brits and Germans visiting Kalisz

There are two foreign delegations from Kalisz's partner cities. Local government representatives from German Hamm came to learn about the functioning of some areas of our city, and musicians from English Preston perform concerts with us on ukulele.

The Germans came to Kalisz for a study visit. New heads, heads of municipal companies and councilors want to see how the local government in Kalisz works. The guests from Hamm divided into three teams. The first visited institutions related to social assistance and security. Its members saw, among others how the Kalisz children's home and one of nurseries work. They also visited the fire and municipal police headquarters. The latter was particularly impressed by Hamm.

- We watched the city monitoring system in great detail. I like the solution used in Kalisz to monitor only some points of the city, those that require it, not the entire area. It's a much more practical solution, ”said Thomas Herstegen-Petterman, mayor of Hamm.

The second team was interested in culture and education. German local government officials saw the realities of the functioning of the Kalisz Philharmonic and the Art Gallery of Jan Tarasin. They also visited two educational institutions: I High School Adam Asnyk and Special Primary School No. 19. The last group dealt with revitalization and construction. She went to the district of Jabłkowskiego, Podgórze or Gołębia streets, where actions are planned for urban regeneration and social work with residents, and where a neighborly house is being built. German local government officials visited buildings that are to be renovated and rebuilt. They also watched a presentation about the revitalization of the Main Square.

- The exchange of mutual experiences by local government officials is invaluable. Despite the differences between the functioning of Kalisz and Hamm, which require at least a different law, many good and tested solutions can be transferred to your city - said Vice President Rzawrz Kulawinek.

Currently, the band Ukulele Strummers Society from Preston is in Kalisz. Musicians this afternoon take part in a ukulele workshop, and in the evening they will give a concert at the Music Market. The attraction of this event will be a joint - together with the inhabitants who will bring their own instruments - play of Bob Dylan's song "Knockin 'on Heaven’s Door". "Ukulele Strummers Society" will also be heard on Saturday - at 11:30 at the "Nights and Days" fountain and at 17:15 at Rozmark.

Both delegations met today with the Vice Presidents Grzegorz Kulawinek and Mateusz Podsadny. They will also visit the city, learning its history and the most important monuments.
