Delegations from partner cities celebrate Kalisz's birthday

To mark the celebration of the Kalisz City Day, the city hosted delegations from its partner and sister cities: Hamm (Germany), La Louvière (Belgium), Hautmont (France), Kamianets-Podilskyi (Ukraine), and Lovech (Bulgaria). The visit of the international guests provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, jointly honor distinguished citizens of Kalisz during a ceremonial meeting of the Kalisz City Council, and celebrate the city’s birthday together.

The main event of the visit was the ceremonial meeting of the Kalisz City Council. During the meeting, guests were introduced to citizens recognized for their contributions to the development of the city and local community. These individuals were awarded honors and titles in recognition of their service. The artistic highlight of the session was a concert by Mietek Szcześniak, whose performance presented the depth of character of Kalisz's cultural life to the international guests.

Following the official part of the program, the guests joined in a joint celebration. The foreign delegations took part in a birthday festival for the City of Kalisz, held on Główny Rynek. The guests showed interest in the villages that were incorporated into the city 25 years ago. They had the opportunity to taste birthday cakes prepared for the occasion, as well as local specialties, often emphasizing that cuisine is a key part of any city’s identity. The delegations also explored Kalisz’s history through a multimedia exhibition in the city hall tower and an outdoor display on Główny Rynek documenting the incorporation of Dobrzec, Sulisławice, and Sulisławice Kolonia into the city. The program also included artistic performances. Guests listened to concerts by the Dobrzec Kalisz Brass Band and by Katarzyna Zawada.

For the city authorities, the event was also an opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives of the foreign delegations. Meetings took place both during the official sessions and informally during the festival. Topics included international cooperation, ongoing joint projects, and opportunities to further strengthen ties in areas such as culture, education, and the economy. The entire visit highlighted not only the richness of culture of Kalisz but also its openness and hospitality.
