Kalisz and Hamm – 35 Years of Partnership Cooperation. Kalisz Delegation Visits Hamm
The meeting was particularly significant as it took place in the year marking the 35th anniversary of the partnership between Kalisz and Hamm. The long-standing cooperation between the two cities encompasses local government, cultural, educational, and social contacts, with direct meetings between residents playing an important role.
The Kalisz delegation was officially welcomed by Lord Mayor of Hamm Marc Herter during a meeting at the town hall. Representatives of Oranienburg, another partner city of Hamm, as well as representatives of organizations and groups involved in developing the partnership, also took part in the event.
The visit programme combined official meetings with opportunities to explore the city and its cultural offerings. Representatives of Kalisz attended, among other events, a meeting at the town hall and events connected with the H4 cultural festival. It was an opportunity to review the cooperation to date and exchange views on possibilities for its further development.
The Kalisz delegation also visited the Gustav Lübcke Museum, which is currently presenting the "War and Jam" exhibition, and took part in events organized as part of the H4 festival.
Another element of the visit was the participation of young people from Kalisz in the H4 cultural festival. On Saturday, the youth orchestra of the State Music School in Kalisz performed on a stage in the centre of Hamm, presenting the audience with music and the artistic achievements of our city. Around 30 young people aged 12 to 19 took part in the visit. Their performance provided an opportunity for young residents of the two cities to meet directly and demonstrated that partnership cooperation is, above all, about relationships between people.
A group of around 15 students from the Adam Asnyk High School No. 1 in Kalisz, who are taking part in a student exchange programme with Gymnasium Hammonense, also participated in the meeting in Hamm. Youth exchanges have been an important element of cooperation between Kalisz and Hamm for many years, allowing students to learn about the language, culture, and everyday lives of their peers.
The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the role of community organizations and individuals involved in building relations between the two cities. Representatives of organizations including Kulturbruecke Hamm-Kalisz, the International Club of Hamm, and other groups supporting the partnership were involved in preparing the meeting. The event provided an opportunity to present Kalisz as a city open to international cooperation and actively involved in cultural and educational projects.
In addition to the official programme, the Kalisz delegation had the opportunity to explore some of Hamm's most important landmarks and attractions. The programme included, among other activities, a city walk and a visit to Maximilianpark, accompanied by an educational tour led by experts.
