La Louviere during the pandemic

At the time when travel is very limited and it is advisable to keep a distance, cooperation between partner cities must do without visits, exchanges, workshops or international sports competitions. Thanks to e-mail and telephone contacts, we can support each other and show care and inform about the situation in friendly cities.

The partners from La Louviere (Belgium) sent information about the current situation in their country and the city. Although the number of new cases of infection diagnosed is declining, the situation in the hospital remains tense.

The inhabitants of La Louviere, as in most European countries, must adhere to certain restrictions:

Full-time remote work is recommended whenever possible. Only convenience stores are open. Other shops and restaurants, bars, theaters, sports halls are closed, as well as services that require close contact, such as hairdressers and wellness. Outdoor markets are available under sanitary restrictions (wearing a mask, distance between persons of 1.50 m, hand disinfection at the market) and only "basic necessities" are allowed.

Students under the age of 12 still go to school, while older students may have lessons at home if the number of places in the class is too large (students are divided into 2 groups). One group is in person in the classroom, the other group can work at home in the lessons; group changes occur every week.

First-year university students have full-time classes, and remote classes are organized for older students.

Restrictions also apply to social life. People living alone in a home may meet two different people, but not at the same time; a family living in the same house is allowed to meet 1 person (at different times).

Meetings of 4 people are allowed outside, maintaining the sanitary rules. It is also forbidden to play sports indoors. There is a curfew between 22:00 and 6:00 am. All these restrictions apply until December 13th.
