New mayor in our partner city Hamm

After 21 years in office, Thomas Hunsteger-Petermann (CDU) handed over the position of mayor of Hamm to his successor, elected in the second round of the elections on September 27, 2020, Marc Herter (SPD).

Marc Herter received 40.68% of the votes in the first round, 63.57% in the second. On Sunday, November 1, he officially replaced Thomas Hunsteger-Petermann as mayor of Hamm.

He was sworn in yesterday, November 3, by Peter Raszka, the oldest member of the City Council. In Germany, the mayor is also the president of the council. Yesterday also Krystian Kinastowski sent a congratulatory letter to the new head of the city.

There are 58 councilors in the Hamm City Council, of which the most, 22 seats, are SPD representatives. The current coalition consists of the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and the FDP.

Already in October, the new mayor was implementing his duties, which Thomas Hunsteger-Petermann introduced him to.

A native of Hamm, Herter studied jurisprudence in Münster, then worked in a chemical company. He has been a member of the SPD since 1991. In 1994-2014 he was a member of the Hamm City Council. From 2010, he was a member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. He was elected three times in the Landtag elections: in 2010, 2012 and 2017. Due to the election of mayor, he had to submit a parliamentary seat a week ago.
