On improving public transport policy in Spain

Last week, Vice President Mateusz Podsadny took part in workshops held in Valladolid, Spain as part of PE4Trans - an integral cooperative project for improving low-carbon economy policy.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Kalisz Ostrów Agglomeration Association, which implements the project together with the University Foundation of Adam Mickiewicz, Poznan Science and Technology Park and foreign partners from Germany, Great Britain, Greece and Spain.

The topics of the workshop concerned improvement of public transport policy, good practices and practical examples of initiatives promoting changes in habits and procedures related to people's mobility. The workshop leaders paid particular attention to the issue of creating bicycle infrastructure and promoting bicycle transport among children and youth.  Good practices in various cities regarding the dissemination of a healthy lifestyle among residents were also widely discussed.

The workshop took place on February 20-21 at the headquarters of the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development in Valladolid, Spain.

As we read on the AKO Association website, the PE4Trans project is part of Interreg Europe and is transnational. It improves public transport policy by involving citizens
in the design and implementation of sustainable transport strategies. Its main goal is to contribute to achieving the goals of the low carbon economy by supporting low-emission public transport, including cycling and walking. A very important element of the project is learning about human needs and motivations to be able to influence the change of habits and habits related to the mobility of people. The most important task of the project is to work with infrastructure users. Many regions and cities throughout Europe invest significant resources in public transport infrastructure, including through promotional activities aimed at changing the habits of the inhabitants of the Agglomeration and supporting sustainable transport also in the lives of each of us.

The Association of the Kalisz-Ostrów Agglomeration in the Study of sustainable transport development of the Kalisz-Ostrów Agglomeration as one of the priorities is to support the low-carbon strategy, including urban mobility. This document presents the existing conditions and defines the basic goals and directions of sustainable transport in the AKO. It covers all branches of passenger and freight transport. One of the many findings of the study is to define the standards of transport services in public transport, based on the idea of cooperation (all units managing road infrastructure, road traffic and public transport system) and integration (all means of transport).

In June 2018, the Kalisz-Ostrow Agglomeration Association in partnership with the University of Adam Mickiewicz, Poznań Science and Technology Park and foreign partners from Germany, UK, Greece and Spain participated in the first integration meeting as part of the PE4Trans project. The implementation of the project involves the exchange of knowledge and experience between partners so that the best solutions in the field of sustainable transport can be implemented in Greater Poland. The project being implemented complements and continues efforts towards sustainable public transport and supports low emissions.

The PE4Trans project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg Europe program. The value of the project is EUR 1 409 791.00.
