The silver jubilee with Slovak friends

Exactly 25 years ago, in 1997, a cooperation agreement was signed in Kalisz between our city and the Slovak city of Martin. The ceremony was attended by the highest-ranking representatives of Kalisz and Martin, as well as the Slovak ambassador to Poland. However, the first contacts were established earlier, in 1994.

The contacts so far include sports and cultural exchange. Young and older athletes from our cities take part in races, tournaments and competitions. In 2005, the volleyball team from Kalisz turned out to be the best among the 12 teams participating in the Sports Games of the Turiec Region.
In 1999, the Kalisz Municipal Police and its counterpart in Martin, Mestska Policia, established cooperation, which jointly participated in a seminar on prevention. The cooperation between the city guards also continued in the following years, and the meetings of the guards were primarily used to exchange experiences related to the functioning of municipal police in both cities.

However, the partnership is not just about official contacts. Since 2004, the T. Kościuszko-Secondary School of General Education  cooperates with Gymnázium Viliama Paulinyho - Tótha, and apart from mutual visits, school students stay in touch by e-mail.
International exchange of students of the Secondary School No. 3 with the youth of the partner school Obchodna Akademia in Martin has been going on since 2005. Students visit each other in their cities, take part in joint language and cultural activities as well as tourist and sightseeing tours.

In recent years, our cities have jointly implemented several large projects, including: "Amber Expedition", "The Great War - a great novel and its author - a great message", "Show me my city" (the project is still ongoing) or "Modrodruk - cultural heritage  that connects us ”.

There is a year ahead of us in which we will hopefully be able to celebrate the silver jubilee of cooperation during personal meetings in Kalisz and Martin.
