The squirrel trail

Four squirrels live in the center of Kalisz. Made of bronze, the Kalisz „Basias” welcome strolling residents and visitors alike.

The City Park, considered the oldest public park in Poland, is particularly popular with squirrels - small, agile and friendly rodents. According to the residents, they are the symbol of the park, which is why their sculptures decorate the most prominent places in the city center. They form a pleasant walking trail that encourages people to visit the City Park.

The bronze sculptures were designed by Gabriela Michalak, a student at the Secondary School of Fine Arts and winner of the "Squirrels of the City" art competition.

The first two squirrels are located on the main square - one on the central flower bed in front of the city hall, anotherother hiding under a linden tree on the left side of the square. The next one is on a bench facing the Adam Asnyk monument. To reach the fourth, take a short walk through the City Park to the Theatre Bridge. There, from atop the railing of the bridge, a squirrel is looking at the historical theater.

We invite you to follow the squirrels’ path and let them guide you through their favorite place on Earth - the City Park in Kalisz.
