White Night of Culture in Italian Adria

On September 5-8, 2024, a two-member delegation from the city of Kalisz took part in the White Night of Culture event in Adria, Italy. The visit was part of an international initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between youth from friendly cities. The hosts in Adria, with Mayor Massimo Barbujani in the lead, invited delegations from Kalisz, Świdnica and Belgium's Maldegem to participate in the event.

The White Night of Culture, known as Notte Bianca della Cultura, is an annual event that brings together young people, artists and cultural representatives to celebrate the arts and international cooperation together. A delegation from Kalisz, consisting of Maciej Antczak, councilor of the Kalisz City Council, and Tomasz Witak, working in international cooperation at the Mayor's Office, participated in a series of meetings and discussions, the main purpose of which was to promote youth involvement in the cultural and social life of their cities. It was a space for integration and exchange of experiences, as well as for understanding how representatives of different countries approach social and cultural challenges.

An important highlight of the program were speeches by representatives of each delegation, which emphasized the key role of international cooperation in education and youth development. Councilman Maciej Antczak also highlighted in his address the long history of cooperation between Kalisz and Adria. Both cities are located on the Roman amber route, so trade and cultural exchanges between our cities have been going on for thousands of years.

During their visit to Adria, the delegations also had the opportunity to participate in a trip to Venice, organized by the hosts. Venice's canals and monuments provided the backdrop for less formal but equally important discussions about the future of the cities, tourism issues and heritage preservation. Throughout the visit, the delegations had the opportunity to talk about the challenges facing their cities. Among the issues discussed were the emigration of young people, the need to create places for leisure activities, and the necessity to develop infrastructure to support education and culture. The exchange of ideas and experiences between Kalisz, Świdnica, Maldegem and Adria was highly valuable, and the joint meetings provided an excellent platform for further cooperation.

The visit to Adria was an important step in building international cooperation and involving young people from Kalisz in projects with a European scope. Thanks to such initiatives, Kalisz residents gain not only new skills, but also an understanding of the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences in the international arena. Adria's White Night of Culture provided an inspiring space for dialogue, creativity and joint action for a better future for generations to come. The City of Kalisz is proud to emphasize its commitment to the development of international partnerships and to support initiatives that open residents to new perspectives.

Accommodation and meals for the guests were provided by the hosts. The City of Kalisz covered only travel expenses.
