Students from Kalisz and Hamm Discuss Local Government and Democracy

Students from Primary School No. 10 in Kalisz and Beisenkamp Gymnasium in Hamm visited Kalisz City Hall as part of the Erasmus+ project “Experiencing Democracy: Kalisz and Hamm in Dialogue.” The visit provided an opportunity to learn about how local government operates, the role of city authorities, and the importance of dialogue and international cooperation.

The 14- and 15-year-old students were welcomed in the reception hall named after President Ignacy Adam Bujnicki by Katarzyna Ciupek, Press Officer of the Kalisz City Hall. During the meeting, the students learned about the key aspects of the work of Kalisz’s local government. They then visited the multimedia exhibition located in Kalisz City Hall.

The visit was part of a project focusing on democracy and local self-government from the perspective of young residents of Kalisz and Hamm. Participants have the opportunity to learn how local communities function, exchange experiences, and discuss the role of citizens in the life of their city. Cooperation between students from the two cities is of particular importance to the project. Joint activities allow young people to learn about different experiences of local government and develop their ability to engage in dialogue and cooperate across borders.

The project “Experiencing Democracy: Kalisz and Hamm in Dialogue” combines civic education with international youth cooperation. Meetings between students from the two cities provide a space for exchanging experiences, discussing democracy and local self-government, and discovering the European dimension of cooperation between local communities.
