Maria Dąbrowska

Born on October 6, 1889 in Russów near Kalisz. She came from a poor noble family and raised in a court in Russów, which today houses a museum dedicated to her person.

Author of the memorable novel Noce i dnie (1931-1934), for which she was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1939, 1957, 1959 and 1960. The story itself presents the fate of several generations of the noble family of Niechcic and the action is located in Kalisz, named in the novel Klińcem and its outskirts. "Nights and Days" were recognized by critics of literature as the best novel in the history of Polish literature. Maria Dąbrowska died on May 19, 1965 in Warsaw.
